African Union Reacts To Uhuru's New Directive

African Union (AU) Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat has hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive that will see Africans visiting Kenya given Visas at the points of entry.

Mr Mahat termed the decision as historic and called on other African nations to follow Kenya's lead.

He took to social media shortly after President Kenyatta's speech to state: "Delighted by President Kenyatta's announcement to issue Visas on arrival for all Africans visiting Kenya.

"Congratulations on this historic decision! I urge all African states that have not yet done so, to take similar measures towards free movement of Africans across Africa," Mahamat concluded.

President Kenyatta, while making the announcement, stated that the move was meant to underscore Kenya's commitment to Pan-Africanism.

"To underscore Kenya's commitment to Pan-Africanism, this will not be done on the basis of reciprocity," President Kenyatta added.

This means that other countries do not need to have similar rules in place for Kenyan citizens visiting their countries.

Kenya became the third country after Rwanda and Ghana to open up it's borders.

The President also announced that citizens of East African Community (EAC) member states would be treated like Kenyans.

"From today, you will be treated like Kenyans. Like your Kenyan brothers and sisters you will only need your ID card," Kenyatta stated.
