Jubilee's Statement on Splitting NASA

The Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale on Thursday denied that Jubilee Party was behind the sharp division at the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Speaking to the Nation, Duale stated that the ruling party was focused on ensuring the country is united and all parties are brought together to heal the nation after the divisive elections.

"Jubilee Party will reach out to like-minded leaders across the country, NASA being one of them, to unite the country after the deeply divisive elections,” he stated.

Mr Duale further explained that as a government they needed an active Opposition to keep them on track.

“We have no intention of weakening the Opposition. We want a vibrant Opposition so that we can take on each other on issues that will make this country grow." Duale explained.

According to the Garissa Town MP, the major reason for the infight in the opposition was because of the leadership in both houses of parliament and 2022 succession battles.

“NASA has fallen because of the leadership of the House and it’s very common with an Opposition, particularly coming soon after they lose an election. There is always pull and push because, for the next five years, they have to manage succession.

“The Opposition will have issues to address on their 2022 succession. We are not involved. We have no business with them," Duale explained.

He made the remarks following a sharp division that hit NASA over its nominations for parliamentary leadership positions.

On Wednesday a section of Coast opposition MPs expressed their anger over the nominations and called upon the principals to intervene. Amani National Congress (ANC) which is an affiliate party in the coalition threatened to quit NASA if the list was not amended.
