Raila Odinga's Message to Government after David Ndii's Arrest

Speaking to journalists at Kisumu County Government offices on Monday, National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has condemned the move by the police to arrest the coalition's Chief Strategist David Ndii.

He reiterated that Dr Ndii had not committed any crime and alleged that the government was trying to intimidate NASA members through blackmail and arrests.

“The people of Kenya will not be subjected to submission by this government. Their will shall not be suppressed through arrests, prosecutions, blackmail, intimidation, teargas, bullets and water-cannons,” Odinga affirmed.

According to Mr Odinga, Dr Ndii was “collected like a dog” while on holiday with his family.

Mr. Ndii was arrested on Sunday evening in Kwale County at Leopard Beach Hotel and was allegedly taken to Diani Police Station before being transported to Nairobi.

David Ndii is to be charged with incitement to violence for utterances he is claimed to have made a month ago, according to NASA lawyer and MP for Rarieda Otiende Omollo.

Speaking to the media outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) offices, the lawmaker informed the public that Dr Ndii would be taken to Milimani Law courts at around 2:00 pm.

Mr Odinga asserted that he was aware the matter would not end with Dr Ndii as he anticipates that the police will arrest more members of the opposition to intimidate them.

Amongst a team of 6 other officials, Dr Ndii was tasked with guiding and facilitating various programs that are central to NASA’s agenda as well as other duties including planning Mr Odinga’s swearing-in on 12 December.

The former Prime Minister claimed that since August 8, the country had seen 215 people die at the hands of “trigger happy police officers.”

He informed the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government that the move towards electoral justice was unstoppable and that the will of the people of Kenya would prevail.
