Kenya's Trending Topics on December 5, 2017

Kenyans were on Tuesday engaged in various heated discussions on social media platforms following exciting political events in the country.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's newly erected emblem along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi, formed part of the heated discussions as Kenyans took it apart on Twitter.

Kenyatta was criticised for putting up the round representation of his authority. The round structure has the Coat of Arms at its centre with an outer circle bearing the words "Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya".

Offended social media users took the new structure as a slap in the face for those who had not come to terms with events that marred the presidential election.

The disgruntled social media users shot down the effort by the government as they discussed a new term coined by the National Super Alliance (NASA), the People's President.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) sparked debates after confirming that it would execute a plan to swear in former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the people's president.

Using the new phrase "People's President" heated discussions continued for the better part of the day.

DP Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto was on the trend on Tuesday after speaking during a status report meeting organised by the outgoing Salaries and Remuneration Commision (SRC).

The DP called for MPs to draft a new bill to cap the public wage to avoid misappropriation of taxpayers monies.

"The public service must begin an urgent process of engaging the public service the county public service boards and government boards at national and county level to ensure we stem the runaway numbers that are eroding the gains we are making in harmonizing public wages," DP Ruto urged.

The outgoing SRC Chairperson Sarah Serem trended on Tuesday after the Constitutional six-year-term for the office bearers officially expired.

The SRC held a status conference to convey the final report of their term in a function where DP Ruto was present.

Kenyans on social media took the opportunity to convey their assessment of the commission's term in office.
