Nairobi MCAs Robbed During Meeting in Mombasa

Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who had retreated to Mombasa for a special sitting of the Energy and ICT committee were on Friday robbed during their meeting.

The 17 ward representatives had stepped out of the conference hall for their lunch break only to come back to find that the room had been ransacked.

The thieves made away with two laptops belonging to the assembly clerk and a facilitator of the session.

The MCAs also lost an undisclosed amount of money after the robbers went through bags that had been left under their chairs.

Speaking on phone, Karura MCA Joseph Wambugu stated that the delegation had booked a two-day stay at the Sai Rock Hotel.

"All the laptops that were left on the tables and money in the bags some of the members had kept under the seats has been stolen. We need the hotel to give us our valuables," the MCA lamented.

The legislators suspected that some of the hotel workers may have colluded with women dressed in hijabs and carrying children to execute the robbery.

Mr Wambugu added that the hotel is fully booked and all the conference halls were in use at the time of the robbery making it hard for anyone to contemplate such an incident could happen.

Kenyans.co.ke has learnt that the hotel has been plagued by such incidences and travel advisers such as Trip Advisor, often warn of it.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, NASA-affiliated MCAs on Thursday walked out of a session after Speaker Beatrice Elachi quashed an attempt to discuss the People's Assembly motion.

NASA leaders have continued to assert that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be sworn in as the people's President on Jamhuri Day against advice to dissuade them.
