Put Raila Under House Arrest- Uhuru Told

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has called for National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to be put under house arrest.

This comes as the former Prime Minister is scheduled to be inaugurated as the People's President on 12 December.

CS Kiunjuri warned that Mr Odinga was about to cross a legal red line and that the government would not hesitate to take action on him.

Attorney-General Githu Muigai had earlier in the week issued a statement terming Raila's scheduled swearing-in as 'high treason'.

Treason, according to Kenyan law, is punishable by death.

Mr Muigai stated: “Further, any person acting in violation of Article 3(2) commits a treasonable offence under Section 40 of the Penal Code.

"This also includes being an accessory after the fact to treason and failing to give information to designated public bodies for the purpose of preventing commission of the offence,” he continued.

The police have also affirmed that the Attorney-General's position is as good as their own, noting that they would not hesitate to enforce the law.

Police Spokesperson Charles Owino stated: "The AG is the chief adviser to the government and we work for the government. The AG has advised us on what the law provides for.

"Police enforce laws and regulations of the land. We respect Kenyans and what they do but if you commit an offence, we have to act within the law. If the law dictates that you have to be arrested then our hands are tied - we have to act within the law," he declared.
