What Ekuru Aukot Wants Uhuru To Declare A National Disaster

Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot has called for President Uhuru Kenyatta to declare corruption a national disaster.

Aukot blasted President Kenyatta for not speaking on corruption during his inauguration speech and highlighted extreme theft of public funds.

He further noted that a huge chunk of funds borrowed from international lenders could not be accounted for.

In an opinion piece published in one of the local dailies, Aukot asked President Kenyatta to act on the Auditor-General's reports which indicated more than a third of the annual budget was lost to corruption.

The article reads in part: "The President must, therefore, declare corruption a national disaster and immediately embark on stringent measures to stop theft of public funds.

"It is estimated this year alone, we borrowed Sh700 billion; but we also stole Sh700 billion! Sadly, we borrow to steal," Aukot lamented.

He urged the President to borrow ideas from the Thirdway Alliance manifesto on how to deal with corruption.

The former Presidential candidate gave a raft of recommendations that he urged President Kenyatta to adopt as he begins his second term in office.

Noting that the country was seriously divided, Aukot asked President Kenyatta to include all 44 Kenyan tribes in his new cabinet.

He stated that the 22 Cabinet Secretary positions as well as the Principal Secretary posts should be filled by leaders of different ethnicities.

"Do not run the risk of assuaging bloated political egos of some individual, for they may hold you at ransom and make your second term a season in hell. That may be their intention. Beware, Mr President!" Aukot cautioned.
