6 Roads Where Accidents Are Likely To Happen This Christmas- NTSA

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has mapped a list of areas where accidents are likely to cocur over the festive season.

Road users were urged to be careful while using the roads to ensure lives are not lost unnecessarily over the period.

The mapped areas are along the Nairobi-Nyeri-Isiolo, Nairobi-Embu-Meru, Nairobi-Mombasa, Nairobi-Malaba, Nairobi-Narok-Kisii-Migori and Nairobi-Naivasha-Gilgil-Nyahururu roads.

Drivers as well as pedestrians have been advised to follow traffic rules to the letter.

The authority has launched a crackdown on errant motorists to avoid the spike in accidents over the festive period that has been witnessed in previous years.

Drunk drivers are one of the main targets of the crackdown, with officers using alcoblow to apprehend several motorists over the past week.

Assistant Deputy Director of Road Safety Harold Aden stated that the NTSA would patrol the areas everyday on the look-out for drunk drivers and vehicles carrying excess passengers.

"We have partnered with the police and mapped out major roads across the country. We are not here to inconvenience passengers but take care of them on the road," Aden stated.

Speaking during a crackdown at Castle along the Thika Superhighway, Mr Aden noted that 290 people died on the highway in December of last year.

"Let us all be responsible and observe discipline on our roads. Our intent is not to arrest but to talk with the motorists on dangers of reckless driving," Aden concluded.
