EACC to Investigate All Millionaires in County Government

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday launched a process to investigate all workers in the Taita Taveta Government who acquired millions through unethical practices.

Speaking during a visit to Governor Granton Samboja's office, EACC vice chairperson Sophia Lepuchirit stated that the Commission would conduct a lifestyle audit on all county workers who had turned into millionaires shortly after being employed.

While launching a two-week Corruption Risk Assessment exercise, Ms Lepuchirit assured that they would conduct the investigations speedily into mismanagement of public funds in the county.

She added that the commission would implement the Auditor General's report where many counties were exposed as not effectively accounting for funds.

Additionally, the EACC vice chairperson explained that they would look into the employees' businesses in relation to their salaries to establish whether it was logical to own a fleet of vehicles with the current pay.

On his part, Governor Samboja agreed with the commissioner's sentiments lamenting that the county had lost millions of shillings in revenue to corrupt county workers.

He assured that he would collaborate with EACC and other stakeholders in the fight against corruption.

In attendance was County Assembly Speaker Meshak Maghanga among other county officials.

The Taita Taveta Governor has been battling the EACC since he was elected over allegations that he had forged his academic papers.

Days after being elected during the August polls, Mr Samboja moved to court to block the commission from conducting further investigations, arrest, and prosecution over his academic papers.
