Man Pulls Out Gun in Court During Wavinya Ndeti's Petition

Court proceedings were interrupted in Wavinya Ndeti's petition against Machakos governor Alfred Mutua after a man pulled out a gun.

Reports indicate that the unidentified man allegedly threatened to shoot one of Ndeti's supporters.

Wavinya and the man who was threatened have since recorded a statement at the Machakos Police Station.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Wavinya’s laywer Dan Maanzo, stated that the gun drama issue is being followed up and refuted earlier reports that the gun had been pointed at Wavinya's son.

He further added that the registrar of the court had taken up the matter and would ensure that no guns are allowed in court.

"Guns should not be allowed in court. We have recorded a statement with police and we will follow up on this matter.

"The registrar has assured us that everyone will be checked before going into a courtroom. Having a gun in court is very dangerous," he remarked.

The man was immediately whisked away by police after the drama.

In September, Ndeti got her first win in the case after the High Court ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to submit the electronic kits and other materials used during the election during the next hearing.

The delivery of the materials was to help the court ascertain whether there was malpractice in the Machakos Gubernatorial election.

In the petition, Ndeti claimed that Mutua's victory was marred by irregularities and massive rigging that led to the failure to sign forms 34A, 37B and 37C as required by the law.

She also alleged that there were non-gazetted polling centres leading to the unlawful announcement of Mutua as the winner of the governorship race.

The former Kathiani MP who vied on a Wiper Party ticket got 199,257 votes while Governor Mutua garnered 238,405 votes.
