Jubilee, NASA MPs Organize Meeting to Strike Deal

Jubilee Party and National Super Alliance (NASA) legislators have organized a meeting to reach an agreement on their preferred East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) nominees.

This is to ensure the preferred candidates sail through when the legislators cast their votes in Parliament on Thursday.

The lawmakers also plan to use the meeting to agree on the composition of parliamentary committees.

Confirming the planned meeting, National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi divulged that they were yet to decide on who to front for the positions.

He stated: "We will have a meeting on Wednesday to deliberate on the list ahead of the vote on Thursday. The lobbying is still on.

"We are yet to settle on our four favourites,” Mbadi continued.

Jubilee Party held a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at State House on Wednesday to finalize their preferred list of committee members and EALA nominees.

Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali stated that the Jubilee structure had made it easier for a deal to be struck compared to the opposition.

“The beauty of our party is that it is one party with affiliates and strong leadership. With the affiliates, they also listen to our leaders. Our brothers in the Opposition have to share amongst different parties,” Washiali stated.

Senate Minority Whip Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr confirmed that NASA would also hold it's own Parliamentary Group meeting, but did not reveal the time.

“A clear picture of who the parties prefer will be seen after the coalition’s Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting,” he stated.
