Parliament Blocked From Making Decision on NASA Representatives

Political Parties tribunal on Wednesday temporarily barred the Members of Parliament (MPs) from electing National Super Alliance (NASA) East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) candidates.

The Legislators were stopped from electing the Kenyan representatives to the regional assemblies until a case challenging the NASA nomination list is heard and determined.

Members of the National Assembly were set to elect Kenya's representatives on Thursday morning while their colleagues in Senate were scheduled to conduct the voting exercise in the afternoon.

This moves comes after Ford Kenya through Assistant Secretary-General Yasser Ali Sheikh sued NASA and the Speakers of both National Assembly and the Senate over the EALA list.

Mr Yasser faulted the coalition for failing to include representatives from Ford Kenya and the Chama Cha Mashinani.

The Ford Kenya official accused the Opposition of conducting the nomination process without considering coalition rules.

“The list was arrived at without consulting or involving Ford-Kenya which is an equal partner and constituent party in the final decision-making process,” he stated through lawyer Titus Ochich.

The Ford Kenya official asked the court to issue orders that will stop the House from recognizing the nominees as duly elected members to EALA.

On Wednesday morning, NASA and Jubilee MPS organized a meeting to reach an agreement on their preferred EALA nominees.

This meeting was to ensure the preferred candidates sail through when the MPs cast their votes in Parliament.
