Sonko Explains Why He Snubbed Governors' Meeting With Uhuru

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday explained why he snubbed Governors' induction presided by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kwale county.

Sonko opted to keep off the seminar targeting newly elected governors, to mourn with his bodyguard who lost nine members of his family.

Mr Sonko stated that the nine members of the same family who perished last week in the grisly accident that occurred at Kamukuywa bridge were related to his bodyguard.

"The nine family members who perished are relatives of my bodyguard, and I am helping with burial arrangements.

"It is a sad moment for us and my bodyguard, we are planning on how a homestead will bury nine members of its family," he stated in an interview with Nairobi News.

He also boycotted the meeting to join other legislators in Parliament in campaigning for former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua for one of the slots for EALA.

"I want to ensure that Mr Mbugua gets the seat. I have been campaigning, and it will be out of order for me to travel out of town before the mission is accomplished," he conveyed.

The seminar was planned to enable governors, especially newly elected ones, to understand the various laws governing county governments.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi also skipped the induction meeting for governors.
