Sonko Stole 3 Projects From Me - Kidero Claims

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has broken his silence claiming that Governor Mike Sonko was taking credit for three projects that he (Kidero) had initiated.

Speaking on Thursday, the former Governor stated that he had started the automation of the revenue collection, setting up of the data centre and development of the Nairobi Integrated Development Plan.

"Now Sonko has embraced eJijiPay - an online payment system, but during his campaigns, he stated categorically that he would terminate the contract with JamboPay - the service provider," he stated.

He stated that during his tenure, he had contracted JamboPay and had automated 14 out of 136 revenue streams in the county including parking fees, rates, and single business permits.

Since Governor Sonko took over in August, 89 streams have been digitized with a goal of having all in the system by the end of December.

Dr. Kidero further stated that the data centre at City Hall that had been launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier in the week was his initiative that had stalled in its final stages.

"Actually by the time I was leaving City Hall, the data centre was complete. I negotiated with the World Bank in 2014 who agreed to fund it," he told The Star.

Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe hosted President Kenyatta at City Hall and later unveiled what has been dubbed the Digital Transformation Program.

The program was meant to enhance service delivery to Nairobi residents by digitizing various aspects of the administration.

He divulged that once they took office, they found unused ICT equipment worth Sh1.1 Billion. The acquisition of the equipment had been funded by the World Bank through the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA).

Igathe later met Information Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru after which he announced that a modern data centre meant to centralize the operations of the county would be set up.
