Igathe Launches New Plan After Meeting With Uhuru

Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe on Tuesday hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta at City Hall and later unveiled what has been dubbed the Digital Transformation program.

The program is meant to enhance service delivery to Nairobi residents by digitising various aspects of the administration.

He divulged that once they took office, they found unused ICT equipment worth Sh1.1 Billion. The acquisition of the equipment had been funded by the World Bank through the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA).

Igathe later met Information Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru after which he announced that a modern data centre meant to centralize the operations of the county would be set up.

The data centre, according to Igathe, will provide a secure platform for Nairobi City County (NCC) systems, applications and data. Video surveillance and access control will also be installed at City Hall to monitor workers and suppliers.

Nairobi ICT Executive Charles Kerich was also present at the meeting.

Following the announcement, Igathe was joined by Governor Mike Sonko and Deputy President William  Ruto who was introduced to members of the County Executive Committee.

Igathe was appointed Co-Chair of the Special Taskforce on Nairobi alongside Tourism CS Najib Balala.

When unveiling the team, President Kenyatta noted that they were tasked with facilitating a multi-billion shilling collaboration between the National Government and the County Government.

The project was named the Nairobi Regeneration Project and focuses on various areas that need to be addressed to improve the condition of the city.
