Raila to Be Sworn In Before New Year - NASA CEO

National Super Alliance (NASA) CEO Norman Magaya on Saturday stated that Opposition Chief Raila Odinga will be inaugurated before the new year.

Mr Magaya noted that everything was on course regarding Mr Odinga's swearing-in adding that the coalition had not relented on its reform agenda.

“It certainly cannot go beyond 2017, and so we are talking of this happening within the next 10 days or so. We have to end the culture of electoral impunity once and for all and in this year,” Magaya was quoted by Standard.

The NASA CEO further explained that if the coalition's inauguration plan is interfered with, the alliance will proceed with the self-determination route.

“It’s either democracy or self-determination," he stated.

Magaya's announcements comes just a day after the coalition's People's Assembly organising committee announced that Mr Odinga and other leaders will take the oath of office early next year.

In a communiqué seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the coalition announced that the inaugural session of the People's Assembly would be held on the same day.

The committee withheld the specific dates of what has been termed as the constitutive assembly, however, they reiterated that the process of the People's Assembly was back in full swing.

"Following the postponement of the launch of the People's Assembly that was to take place on Jamhuri Day, the Organizing Committee wishes to announce the resumption of the People's Assembly process," the statement read in part.

The Opposition coalition elaborated that a series of consultative forums in various regions of the country will take place in the run-up to the major event.

"The postponed inaugural session of the National People's Assembly will be preceded by a series of regional consultative forums.

"These preparatory meetings will bring together the leadership of the different regions in the country to deliberate on national governance as it affects the regions, and to distill the region's agenda for the People's Assembly," the statement outlined.
