Why Museveni Wants to Meet Uhuru This Week

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Kenya this week for an official state visit.

President Museveni is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday and Thursday.

He becomes the first world leader to make an official visit to the country since President Kenyatta took his oath of office on November 28.

Reportedly, top of the agenda will be improving Kenya's business relationship with Uganda, with statistics showing that exports to Uganda from Kenya fell 20 percent in the first 10 months of 2016.

Speaking during Uhuru's inauguration at Kasarani Stadium, Museveni stated: "You cannot eat politics."

It is expected that the leaders will discuss the possibility of Uganda picking cargo from the new Inland Container Depot in Embakasi after arrival via the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

President Kenyatta launched the depot on Saturday and promised a 50 percent discount for exporters who use the facility.

He stated that the discount would specifically apply to those who transported goods between the Nairobi Inland Container Depot and the Port of Mombasa.

Kenyatta and Museveni are also supposed to discuss the issue of 5,000 Kenyans who fled to Uganda via Busia prior to the August 8 election over fears of Post Election Violence.

Also on the agenda is the issue of the harassment of Kenyans by Ugandan security forces in Migingo.
