Raila Odinga Saves Senator Moses Kajwang' From Losing Seat

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has inspired businessman Fred Rabong'o to withdraw his case against Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang'.

Through his lawyer Humprey Obach, Mr Rabong'o withdrew his case from the High Court stating that his change of heart was in the interest of Mr Odinga.

"Mr Rabong'o has withdrawn the petition in their interest of NASA leader Raila Odinga who is pursuing electoral justice in the country," the lawyer told journalists.

In papers filed with the court, the businessman notified the court that he had dropped the case to "join forces" with Senator Kajwang'.

"It is only by withdrawing this petition that the petitioner, as well as the respondent, can focus their energies and resources towards the common agenda the coalition has adopted," court papers read in part.

The businessman further elaborated that the position of the Opposition in the quest for electoral justice and democracy in the country would be hindered should the petition proceed.

He had filed the suit to overturn the Senator's win in the August 8 election citing rigging and other electoral malpractice.

Mr Rabong'o vied for the seat as an independent candidate and lost to Mr Kajwang' who retained the seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.

Granting the application to withdraw the case, Judge Joseph Karanja, wrote to the clerk of the Senate confirming the withdrawal.

Senator Kajwang' has since congratulated his challenger, lauding him for accepting the will of the people of Homa Bay.

"We should now join hands to strengthen devolution, and bring development to our county," he told Nation.
