Atheist In Kenya Offer Reward To Students Who Failed Religious Studies

The ever controversial Atheists In Kenya (AIK) association have offered to reward students who scored the lowest grade “E” in religious studies in the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

A cash prize of Ksh.10,000 would go to any student who scored an E in either Christian Religious Education (CRE) or Hindu Religious Education (HRE.)

Announcing the news on Tuesday via their website and social media pages, the association stated that they wanted to reward the students.

“We don’t want you to feel like you failed in these subjects! On the contrary, you did spectacularly well!” the statement read in part.

AIK noted that one needs not necessarily be an atheist to participate, and only one boy and one girl will be selected via a random algorithm to win the cash prize.

These winners will then reportedly be invited for an award ceremony which will be held in 2018.

AIK is known for their controversial posts including their drama when they engaged members of the popular Facebook page Kilimani mums in talks about blasphemy.

The group had also called upon the government to remove religious studies from today’s curriculum.

“We once again call on Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to heed our calls and abolish CRE, IRE, and HRE from our curriculum and institute requisite reforms in religious reforms in Kenya,” read another part.

AIK, lead by its president Harrison Mumia, maintained that they aimed at making people understand religion well before blindly following it.
