13 Students Rushed to Hospital After Grisly Accident

Thirteen students were on Wednesday evening rushed to hospital after the 11-seater matatu they were travelling was involved in an accident in Baringo.

Kabartonjo police boss Eliud Njeru confirmed the incident and explained that the driver, who was speeding, lost control and hit a wall.

Mr Njeru further noted that of the thirteen injured, eleven were from Ossen Girl's and two from Moi high school Kabartonjo.

"There were no deaths although one student and the driver were rushed to Baringo referral hospital in Kabarnet town with critical injuries," he stated.

A report from the medical team who received the injured victims revealed that they were all in a stable condition.

Speaking shortly after the accident, Baringo Education Chief Officer Joseph Waiyaro blamed the accident on the rush associated with getting back to school.

He advised all schools to work on ensuring that they provide transportation services for their students during opening and closing dates.

"It is unfortunate that our children have to squeeze themselves into congested matatus as they rush to their respective schools," Waiyiro was quoted by the Star.

The accident comes just a day after a 56-seater City Shuttle bus overturned in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) leaving fourteen people injured.
