Zimbabwe Gov't Threatens Kenya For Hosting Mugabe's Aide

Zimbabwe Government has reportedly pressurized the Kenyan Government for hosting self-exiled former Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo, a close aide to ex-President Robert Mugabe.

Zimbabwe administration wants President Uhuru Kenyatta's government to rein on Moyo, who is also a close confidant to Grace Mugabe, for launching an online attack on President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to Zimbabwe's Daily News, Mnangagwa's government has exerted pressure on Kenya to silence the former Minister who acted as an advisor to Mugabe and his wife.

Mnangagwa's spokesperson, George Charamba, however, faulted the security agencies in the country for possibly threatening Kenya without consulting the President.

“When it comes to security matters it is not about us; the Ministry of Home Affairs would probably know so you can get help from there,” Charamba stated.

The Minister of Home Affairs Obert Mpofu termed the issue "operational" and referred questions to the national police spokesperson, Charity Charamba, who did not return calls.

Mr Mugabe reportedly fled to Kenya shortly after the Zimbabwean military undertook a coup operation that ended Mugabe's 37-year tenure as the President.

Despite seeking refuge in Kenya, the ex-minister has continued criticising Mnangagwa's regime through ferocious tweets in what is seen as a plan to sabotage his presidential bid in the upcoming elections.

However, Kenya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not confirm Moyo's presence in the country and referred Kenyans.co.ke to Zimbabwean High Commission officials who were unavailable for comment.

Sources revealed to Daily Mail that the former government official could violate the state's Official Secrets Act by revealing sensitive information he acquired during his tenure in office.
