DP Ruto held the post in 1990 while pursuing a Bachelors degree in Botany and Zoology and Senator Murkomen would occupy the post before graduating with a Law degree in 2004.

A close ally to DP Ruto, the Senator made his debut in politics during the 2013 General Election where he became the first Senator of his home county, Elgeyo Marakwet.

DP Ruto defined the level of poverty in his parental home as so dire that he only wore shoes for the first time when he joined Form One at Wareng' High School, Uasin Gishu.

"Before he received salvation, my father’s home was brewing alcohol, but we don’t want to return to that path of brewing chang’aa and busaa for our children to get money for education," the DP revealed during the late Soita Shitanda’s funeral in Kakamega in 2016.
