Matiang'i Sets Deadline for All School Buses to be Painted Yellow

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Friday stated that all school buses should be painted yellow by the end of March.

The CS was speaking during a workshop for education reforms where he also restricted the movement of buses to between 6am and 6pm.

The new regulations are in line with the 2016 Traffic (Amendment) Bill passed by the National Assembly in 2017.

"School buses time of travel is 6am-6pm. I hereby direct the police to ensure that all the school buses operate from 6 am to 6 pm only," stated the CS.

This announcement comes just a day after Dr Matiang'i warned politicians against blocking the deployment of some school principals.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government during a meeting with Regional and County Commissioners, Matiangi stated that anyone harassing transferred principals will be arrested and taken to court.

“We are bringing to an end the mentality of people acting as their own boss, we have to function as a whole," he remarked.

His statement comes even as many newly posted school principals were ejected from their schools, in the wake of increased cases countrywide.

Schools affected so far are Cardinal Otunga in Kisii, Friends Kamusinga in Bungoma and St Joseph Girls Kibwezi where Makueni MCAs blocked education officials from escorting a new principal to the institution.

Elsewhere, six Members of Makueni County Assembly (MCAs) were on Thursday arrested and taken to Kibwezi Police Station.

The ward representatives were detained moments after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered the arrest of all individuals trying to eject new school principals.

They were arrested when they went to meet Ministry of Education officials at St Joseph Girls Kibwezi.
