Raila's Contradictory Statement on Swearing-in Plan

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Thursday released a new statement contradicting earlier reports that he intended to proceed with the swearing-in plan even if he will be compelled to do it in exile.

In a statement, the ODM refuted the reports as misleading further stating that the NASA leader was quoted out of context during his interview with Voice of America (VOA).

“Our attention has been drawn to the headline story “I may form a government from exile” on the Daily Nation newspaper today purportedly quoting Raila Odinga on the planned swearing-in ceremony on the 30th of this month.

“The author of the story took excerpts from Mr. Odinga’s interview with the VOA where he said,“Should the government try to stop the intended swearing-in ceremony (which he again said is unlikely), then the only other option was to hold it outside the country,” read the statement.

Mr Odinga had explained that he was the winner of the August 8 Presidential election and will use those results to be inaugurated as the People's President, form a cabinet and run a government even if it will be in exile.

"We can even be a government in exile, one that works from outside. It has happened in other countries, Kenyans can no longer allow an illegitimate government not elected by the people to rule them.

"This is no joke. On January 30, we will end this. We will be sworn in with the August 8 results that show we won. Kenyans can no longer allow an illegitimate government not elected by the people to rule them," he stated during the interview.

He also addressed claims that the coalition was split regarding his planned inauguration affirming that all principals and NASA members were united and supported the move.

"There is no rift in NASA at all. No problems whatsoever. My brothers are fully on the course," he stated.
