It's a Non-Issue to Me - Sonko on Igathe's Exit

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday stated that Polycarp Igathe's exit was a non-issue to him.

Speaking at a workshop in Kiambu County, the Jubilee governor admitted that he did not expect the resignation adding that it was Igathe's choice to leave.

“His resignation is a non-issue to me. I did not fire him, he decided to exit. We have other elected leaders – the MCAs – and I’d urge Nairobi residents to have faith in us, even as we promise efficient service delivery. That is our prime focus,” he stated.

During the meeting, Nairobi Ward representatives vowed to work with the governor to serve the people in the county.

“Our support for Mr. Sonko is unequivocal and unconditional. We want him to continue to deliver services to the Nairobi people. He was given that mandate. We have given him a free hand to consult whoever he wants, and at whatever level he wants,” Nairobi County Chief Whip Chege Mwaura conveyed.

Earlier on Thursday, Woodley Ward MCA Mwangi Njehia told Capital FM News that the President should move with haste to resolve the disagreement between Sonko and Igathe so as to avoid tarnishing his legacy.

“These are minor differences which can be resolved. And also as Jubilee Party, we know that our faithful President Uhuru Kenyatta will act on the same to reconcile them. To fulfill his dream of a legacy, for example, Kibaki left the Thika Superhighway, what will President Uhuru leave? He wants to leave a legacy in Nairobi.

“If he wants to fulfill his agenda for Nairobi, he must reconcile these two guys no matter what.” he was quoted.

On the other hand, Ngara Ward representative Chege Mwaura supported calls for consultations but did not put too much emphasis on the County duo on reconciling.

“We have assured the Governor that we are with him not that we are taking sides but because of the interests of the county. We have consulted and we are of the opinion that he continues to consult further.

“He is back in Nairobi and he is also going to meet some of the leadership of the Party and other key stakeholders when it comes to governance of the City. Whatever direction, whether there is reconciliation or they fail to do that, the most important thing is the business of the County," Mr Mwaura stated.
