Police Raid Babu Owino's Home

Police on Sunday raided Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's home.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator disclosed via social media that the officers raided his house early morning harassing his wife and child.

"Police are currently raiding my house, harassing my wife and my kid," he stated.

Earlier on Friday, the Embakasi East MP was arrested by flying squad officers outside Parliament buildings.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Babu Owino stated that he was being held at Parklands Police Station.

He added that he was questioned over a recent incident in Westlands where he allegedly assaulted a parking attendant.

The ODM MP stated that his arrest was part of Jubilee propaganda to taint his image.

Following his arrest, University of Nairobi (UoN) students from the Parklands Campus, on Saturday launched week-long protests demanding his immediate release.

Led by their student leaders, the School of Law students lit bonfires on the roads leading up to the campus entrance and chanted slogans associated with the Embakasi legislator.

The students claimed that the police were not warranted to arrest the former UoN student leader.

"We only have one rule here, a comrade is never wrong. Babu Owino is not wrong and the government is just testing us to see what we can do.

"From today to Friday or the day when Babu will be released we will not quit our protests," SONU Chairman Jamal Shah told reporters.
