Jubilee MPs Unite Against Sakaja

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has been condemned for bailing out Embakasi East MP Babu Owino from Parklands Police Station on Sunday.

A group of legislators from Jubilee Party led by Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichung'wa and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Tuesday rebuked Sakaja, accusing him of being an opposition sympathiser.

According to the MPs Sakaja has been holding on to Jubilee in order to win the Nairobi senatorial seat and he is now supporting National Super Alliance (NASA).

“Somebody went to get a small boy from the cells instead of helping the boy who has a long way to go to learn to respect the rule of law,” ridiculed Kuria.

On Sunday Moses Kuria had also expressed his displeasure over the actions of the Nairobi Senator.

“Babu Owino called me on Sunday and told me ‘please help me talk to so and so…’ but I told him lets meet when you are out of the cells. I was surprised to later see him with Sakaja,” noted Kuria.

Babu Owino was released from police custody after Sakaja made an undertaking of Ksh.104,000 and a personal surety to produce him in court the next day (Monday).

NASA legislators including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, Mathare legislator Anthony Oluoch, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and former Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra were also at the station seeking to have Babu Owino released but their request had been declined.

The MPs had accompanied Moses Kuria to the Milimani Law Courts for a hearing of an incitement to violence case he is charged with when they made these remarks.

The hearing was however adjourned because the trial magistrate was not present.
