Candidate Ditches NASA Ahead of By-election

Mutiso Leli, a Ford Kenya aspirant for the Kitui West parliamentary seat that was left vacant after the death of Francis Nyenze, has ditched the party for Narc-Kenya after it decided to back the late Nyenze's wife, Edith Nyenze, who is vying on a Wiper Party ticket.

Ben Mbai, who had promised supporters at a recent rally that he would be on the ballot come March 26, has also been denied a party ticket by Jubilee which has decided to back Edith Nyenze as well.

Leli stated that he was forced to ditch the Moses Wetangula-led Ford Kenya after it became clear he would not be issued with a nomination certificate.

"When I realised that there was a sinister motive to deny me the nomination certificate, I joined Narc Kenya, which gave me a nomination certificate.

"I will be Narc-K’s candidate because of the frustrations I faced at Ford-K,” Leli stated.

Mbai, on the other hand, was still making frantic efforts to secure the Jubilee Party ticket despite Secretary-General Raphael Tuju's announcement that they would support Mrs Nyenze.

“Let me finish with Jubilee Party first.

"If I gave you any information now , it will not be conclusive,” he is quoted as teling the Star.

Kitui West Returning Officer James Mbai divulged that six candidates had shown interest in vying for the seat.

Other than Nyenze, Mbai and Leli, the others are Hanningston Mbiti (Independent), Dennis Mulwa (Independent) and Kilonzi Ikonge
