Starehe MP Charles Njagua Booed in Church

Starehe MP and musician Charles Njagua aka Jaguar was on Sunday booed after a church service at Redeemed Gospel Church in Jericho, Nairobi.

Residents of the area began chanting 'kigeugeu' (a person without a clear stance), referring to Jaguar's recent move to sue Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko for banning bodaboda operations within the CBD.

Mr Njagua was in the company of Deputy President William Ruto and Sonko but this did not deter the irate residents from expressing their disappointment.

Last week, under a certificate of urgency, the lawmaker filed the case accusing Sonko of acting irrationally.

He faulted the Governor's decision as hasty, adding that it was reached without any consultation with key stakeholders.

The county government banned motorcyclists from ferrying passengers within the Central Business District over rise of insecurity.

“The move is ill-informed as the acts of some individuals, should not be blamed upon the rest as this is equivalent to issuing blanket blame.

“The acts of the respondents are curtailing the economic rights of the many citizens who rely on the ferrying of passengers on motorcycles as a source of livelihood,” he remarked.

Nairobi has been in the media spotlight following a surge in cases of muggings and robberies in the past few weeks.

Recently, Sonko announced the formation of an anti-mugging squad that would work with police to deal with the gangs.

He has since been assuring residents that the city is safe, even as some accusations were leveled against bodaboda operators.
