KMTC Student Charged with Defiling 16-year-old Patient

A nursing student at the Kapkatet Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) was on Monday charged with defiling a 16-year-old patient.

The victim, a form two student at a local girls' school, had been rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment after falling ill in school.

The victim’s mother revealed that she had rushed her daughter to the hospital to be examined but she left the room crying.

“I was called by the school deputy principal informing me that my daughter was unwell. I picked her and took her to Kapkatet Hospital for further treatment.

“When my child emerged minutes later from one of the corridors, she was weeping. She then whispered to me that the doctor had raped her during the examination,” revealed the parent.

The accused appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Stephen Ngetich and will be remanded for 10 days after failing to raise bond.

Kericho County Police Commander James Mugera confirmed the report stating that the rape test from the hospital came out positive.

Last week there was a standoff at the Kenyatta National Hospital after workers clashed with women activists at the facility amid a fiery storm on allegations of rape.

The allegations were raised earlier in January but hospital boss Lily Koros reiterated that they did not have records of complaints.

She further added that they asked the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate but no one had reported any incident to police.
