Standard Group MD Resigns

Standard Group announced that its Executive Director and Managing Director Print Francis Muli Munywoki had resigned with effect from February 1, 2018.

On Tuesday the media house made the announcement through the Company’s Secretary Millicent Ng’etich.

According to reports by Standard Newspaper, the board of directors notified all the shareholders and the general public of Munywoki’s exit.

‘The board takes this opportunity to thank Munywoki for his commitment and service spanning a period of six years’ the notice read in part.

Last year the media house laid off some 300 employees as the company planned to further reduce its wage bill.

His resignation comes a day after the media houses’ TV station KTN News was shut down by the Communications Authority alongside NTV and Citizen TV.

The 3 TV stations were transmitting live coverage of NASA supporters at Uhuru Park and other locations on Tuesday morning.

NTV reporter Ken Mijungu, in an interview with KTN News, revealed how the stations were taken off the air.

Mijungu noted that the information they had, revealed that a group of 10 people in a Land Cruiser made their way to the CA transmission base and proceeded to switch off the stations.

Speaking from Harambee House on Wednesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i stated that the government had a duty to protect its citizens thus the media houses would remain shut down.
