TJ Kajwang Charged With Supporting Treason

Ruaraka legislator Tom Joseph Kajwang was arraigned in court on Thursday & charged with agreeing to the administration of an oath to commit treason.

The Member of Parliament was also charged with being present and consenting to the administration of an oath to commit a capital offence.

According to the documents before Magistrate Lourine Ogombo, Kajwang administered an oath to Raila Amollo Odinga, meaning to oblige the latter to commit a capital offence of treason according to the State.

On his charge sheet, the lawmaker is alleged to have committed the offense on January 30 at Uhuru Park where the opposition held the “swearing-in” of Raila Odinga.

His second charge was taking part in an unlawful assembly and failing to notify the officer commanding Central Police Station, Nairobi, as per the law.

However, the legislator’s lawyers put forth a request to the court to refer the lawsuit to the Nairobi courts from the Ngong’ law courts.

Kajwang, who was arrested over the ‘swearing-in’ of NASA Leader Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’, was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail.

The lawmaker was arrested on Wednesday outside the Milimani law courts by flying squad officers and taken to the DCI offices.

The legislator had arrived at Raila’s ‘swearing-in’ ceremony in full court regalia and alongside National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna who administered the oath.
