MP TJ Kajwang Arrested

Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang was on Wednesday afternoon arrested by flying squad officers.

He was picked up outside Milimani Law Courts and taken to Nairobi PCIO near Integrity Centre.

Kajwang, alongside National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna, on Tuesday administered NASA leader Raila Odinga's oath as the People's President.

He arrived at the event fully robed hours before Raila made his way to the park.

Reacting to the arrest, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo stated on Twitter: "So, now they have arrested TJ Kajwang, for merely being present during swearing-in of the People’s President!"

The move came after Interior CS Fred Matiang'i declared the Miguna-led NRM a criminal group.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, he claimed that elements within the NRM had ferried youth, some of them armed, and were planning to cause mayhem and blame it on police.

Matiang'i stated that the intelligence they had on the same was the reason the police withdrew from Uhuru Park on Tuesday.

The CS further maintained that the switch-off of TV stations Citizen, NTV and KTN News would remain in place until investigations into the NRM's activities had been  concluded.

He reiterated that the move had been necessary to prevent incitement.
