Sauti Sol's Apology That Has Kenyans Thinking Twice

Kenyan music band Sauti Sol on Friday issued an apology following an email doing rounds on social media of the boy band asking models to appear in a dance video production for no compensation.

The Melanin hitmakers admitted that the email was sent from an account they were aware of and heaped the blame on the contractors who did not execute their duties as expected.

"We have been made aware of an email going around asking models to appear in a Sauti Sol dance video production for no compensation. The production email address it was sent from is often used by 3rd party contractors and in this case, they clearly got it all wrong.

"We believe in fair compensation for all work in the entertainment industry and do not condone the “exposure” speak. We believe our track record speaks for itself. Needless to say, we have terminated our contract with the production company involved. Apologies," the music group tweeted.

Kenyans were quick to comment on the apology calling out Sauti Sol for taking advantage of hardworking models for no compensation.

The email which was sent to successful applicants stated that the Girl Next Door singers did not have a budget for models but would pay for their transport and food.

"We will be needing 6-9 models and you were amongst the models we liked the look of. For this particular video, we do not have a budget for the models.

"However, we will provide money for transport and food on the day of the shoot. and we believe this could open many more doors for you," the email stated.
