Murang'a Senator Jumps to Raila's Defense

Opposition leader Raila Odinga took the oath as the "people's President" last week at Uhuru Park in an event that was termed illegal by various leaders allied to Jubilee Party.

Some even called for his arrest for undermining the Presidency but Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata had a different opinion.

While maintaining that the government was not afraid of arresting Odinga, the Senator stated that the Opposition leader had not committed any crime.

“Mr Odinga has not committed any crime. If he had violated the law, he would have been arrested.

He did not take oath as the President of the Republic. There are many presidents in this country such as university student leaders.

"People are being arrested because they are misleading him and making inciting utterances,” he remarked.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi argued that if Odinga was arrested, Kenya would burn, but also maintained that the government should arrest him for causing disruption.

"Kenya will burn if Raila is arrested, however, Kenya will bounce back. Each time Kenya burns because of Raila it bounced back," Ngunyi stated.

"Government should not shy away from arresting Raila. In fact, they should take him to a mental hospital because declaring himself a 'toy' president' of an imaginary people is abnormal," he remarked.

Elsewhere, the situation surrounding National Resistance Movement (NRM) self-proclaimed general, Miguna Miguna, took a new twist after High Court Judge Luka Kimaru ordered police to avail him in court on Monday afternoon.

Justice Kimaru warned the Government institutions, including the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), that they would be held in contempt of court for a failure to adhere to the orders.

He cautioned the institutions against such confrontations with the courts.
