Arrests Begin as Ezekiel Mutua Goes After Matatus

The Ezekiel Mutua-led Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has launched a crackdown on matatus displaying what they consider pornographic content.

A Mtwapa matatu was on Monday impounded in Mombasa while the conductor and driver were arrested and charged.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, KFCB Coast regional manager, Bonventure Kioko, stated that the crackdown would continue across the country and disclosed that they were working with traffic commandants to make it a success.

"The operation will be very vigorous. We have to fix this.

"We board matatus to move from one place to another, not to display pornographic content," he stated.

Kioko explained that a passenger with a family who boarded the matatu from Mtwapa to Mombasa filed the complaint.

The passenger asked the crew to change the video being displayed but was told to alight at the next stop if it made them uncomfortable.

Once the complaint was filed, they went after the vehicle, confiscated flash drives and discs, and arrested the crew.

The vehicle was also impounded.

Mr Kioko explained that it was their role to protect minors from inappropriate content, expressing confidence they would ensure all matatus comply with the rules.
