Miguna's 1st Statement After Being Charged

Self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) Miguna Miguna had something to say outside the Kajiado court where he was charged on Tuesday.

While being escorted by police officers outside the court, Miguna stated: "Fearless. It does not matter what they do."

A few supporters could be heard encouraging the advocate who has been in police custody since last Friday.

He bluntly refused to take a plea before the Kajiado court, instead asking to be presented before Judge Luka Kimaru of the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

Judge Kimaru had yesterday ordered Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet to personally present Miguna at the court on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, however, Boinnet and DCI boss George Kinoti both sent representatives while the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution stated that he had already been charged in Kajiado.

Miguna's lawyers asked for Boinnet and Kinoti to be charged with contempt of court.

Justice Kimaru is expected to deliver the ruling on the application at 2 pm.

Miguna was charged with 3 counts, among them 'administration of an oath to Raila Amollo Odinga and purporting to bind Raila Amollo Odinga to commit a capital offense of treason'.

This is after he administered Raila Odinga's oath as the 'People's President' at Uhuru Park on January 30.
