An editorial board on the Washington Post has urged US President Donald Trump to take action against Uhuru Kenyatta's government, including sanctions, for violating democracy in Kenya.
The Washington Post further asked Trump to warn President Kenyatta of punitive actions if he did not stop the unlawful crackdown on Opposition leaders.
"The Trump administration should warn him of U.S. punitive actions, including, sanctions if he does not stop," the article stated.
The Board also stated: "Kenya’s African neighbours and Western donors ought to be demanding that the President reverse course before it is too late".

President Kenyatta was also chided by the publication for taking Kenya back to autocracy that was thought to have been left behind.
The Editorial further condemned the President for shutting down three private TV stations after covering the 'swearing-in' of Raila Odinga, ignoring court orders and charging Opposition leaders with treason.
"The President warned Kenyan television stations not to cover the event, then shut down four of them when they did," the article read in part.
"That was a clear violation of the country’s constitution, and when a court ordered the stations reopened, the government did not respond," the editorial added.
The Washington Post further accused President Kenyatta of being vindictive after the Supreme Court nullified his August 8 election win in the historic ruling.

"Uhuru could have fixed the problems with the voting process and defeated Raila again. Instead, he embarked on a vindictive campaign, sponsoring legislation to prevent the Supreme Court from censuring future elections and intimidating electoral officials, one of whom fled the country," the article maintained.
