Olive Mugenda Should not Serve in Judiciary - Donald Kipkorir Explains

City lawyer, Donald Kipkorir, on Wednesday explained why President Uhuru Kenyatta should not have appointed former Kenyatta University (KU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Olive Mugenda to serve in the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC).

Kipkorir revealed that the former VC had more cases filed against her compared to the more than 30 VCs at the Institution and this would jeopardize Kenya's Judicial system.

He based his argument on the fact that JSC is an essential body in the Judiciary as it controls the appointment and removal of key personnel including the Chief Justice and other Judges.

Through his Twitter account, he also claimed that Ms Mugenda lacks courtesy, sagacity, and sobriety needed to serve in this position.

"Judicial Service Commission controls who becomes our CJ & other Judges & who gets removed ... Prof. Olive Mugenda shouldn’t be allowed to be a member ... As KU VC, she had more cases filed against her than all the other 30+ VCs ... She lacks Courtesy, Sagacity & Sobriety needed," he noted.

His complaint comes a day after the President nominated the Professor to JSC alongside Patrick Gichohi and Felix Koskei.

Mugenda stepped down as the Vice-Chancellor in April 2016 and received applause for raising Kenyatta University to world-class status due to the vast development witnessed.

Gichohi, a Commissioner of the Public Service Commission (PSC), has previously served as a Parliamentary Officer for 33 years having been recruited in 1979 as a Parliamentary Clerk Trainee by the PSC.

Felix Kosgei was in 2013 nominated by President Kenyatta as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries.

These nominations came at the same time the Head of State announced the resignation of Githu Muigai as the Attorney General.
