How Inspector General Joseph Boinnet has Advised Police to Dress

Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet has issued a new directive to officers conducting normal patrols in their jungle uniforms meant for battle zones.

In a memo, IG Boinnet has ordered all officers serving within cities and urban areas to cease from the practice and revert to their regular blue or green uniforms.

"It has been noted with a lot of concern that officers in urban centres are wearing jungle fatigues while on normal patrol duties," the memo read in part.

The police boss went on to outline that members of the force may not conduct their duties in civilian clothing terming the act as a violation of the police dress code.

The IG further warned that disciplinary action will be meted on those caught violating of the new directive.

On Thursday, Chief Justice David Maraga spoke during the swearing-in of two deputy IGsNoor Gabow (Kenya Police) and Edward Mbugua (Administration Police) - urging the team to ensure professionalism and discipline of officers.

"We understand you work in a challenging environment but I urge you to ensure the service puts the public interest first," he noted.

Past weeks have seen the police boss become a subject of contention among both politicians and the courts.

Failure to produce Opposition politician Miguna Miguna at the High Court in person caused friction with Justice Luka Kimaru causing the IG to be summoned.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders have as well taken issue with the top boss after he insisted that the crackdown on members of the Opposition would continue so long as they disobeyed the law.
