Moses Kuria Vows to Take Raila to Court for This

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has vowed to take National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to court for what he termed as illegally taking an oath of presidency.

Speaking on Monday in Othaya, Nyeri, Kuria revealed that he would move to court on Wednesday, February 21 to file the petition.

Kuria remarked that: “I will move to court on Wednesday to seek a declaration that the oath Raila Odinga took on January 30 is treason.”

The vocal legislator also castigated the Judiciary for its silence on the NASA oathing ceremony, arguing that the ceremony was against a court order that declared Uhuru Kenyatta the duly-elected president.

“We are being told to respect the Judiciary, yet while the court declared that President Kenyatta won the election, Raila Odinga was sworn contrary to a court order," Kuria stated.

"If Chief Justice David Maraga has been waiting for someone to question him on this issue, then I have offered myself to do it,” he added.

The state launched a crackdown on NASA leaders who participated in the 'swearing-in' ceremony on January 30.

New details emerging on the plan revealed that the state had sanctioned special elite teams and was getting search warrants to raid the homes of the opposition leaders.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang, who commissioned the oath, were arrested and arraigned in court over the ceremony.

The two were charged with “being present and consenting to the administration of an oath to commit a capital offense namely treason contrary to section 59(a) of the penal code.”
