James Orengo, Jimi Wanjigi Finally Allowed to Leave The Country

Siaya Senator James Orengo and billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi have on Monday been allowed to travel out of the country after initially being blocked from getting on a flight to Zimbabwe on Monday night.

The duo will now travel at 1 pm to join Raila Odinga in Zimbabwe for the burial of the late Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Dramatic scenes were witnessed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday night after Immigration officers barred the two from leaving the country.

This was despite the High Court having issued orders earlier in the day restraining the Government from interfering with seven opposition leaders' travel documents and any movements in and out of the country.

Wanjigi and Orengo were among the leaders whose passports had earlier been suspended by the Department of Immigration.

In an amateur video shot at JKIA, Wanjigi could be heard questioning the officials on why they were disobeying court orders.

Orengo, on the other hand, demanded that the immigration officials identify themselves as they were state officers.

In a press release issued on Tuesday morning, Director Gordon Kihalangwa stated that they blocked Orengo and Wanjigi from travelling because they had not been served with the court orders.

He claimed that they tried to show the officials some documents on their phones instead.

"The two Hon. James Orengo and Mr. Jimi Wanjigi will be allowed to travel once such orders are served to the Department," the statement read in part.
