US Ambassador Robert Godec's Directive to Kenyan Governors

United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec on Wednesday urged Kenyan governors to fight corruption in their counties.

Speaking during a formal visit to Kabarnet, Godec noted that corruption was rampant and paralyzing development in Kenya.

“Corruption is another impediment to development in this country. It must be put to a stop for Kenyans to receive services,” Godec directed.

Godec also called on the national and county governments to restore peace in areas hit by the rampant insecurity so as to allow for development.

He remarked that: "No meaningful development can be achieved in the insecurity-prone areas."

"We are calling on the national and county governments to bring normalcy to areas affected because it has been a challenge in initiating development projects in those places.”

He further announced that the United States was planning to roll out development projects worth Sh100 Billion in Kenya.

The diplomat assured Kenyans that the US would partner with the county governments and non-governmental organisations to improve the living standards of residents in the counties.

Speaking earlier in West Pokot, Godec stated that the US government would focus on health, education, and agriculture.
