US Ambassador Robert Godec Assures Kenya of Support Despite Cutting Aid to Ministry of Health

The United States (US) government has issued a new announcement days after a directive was issued to cut off Sh2.1 Billion funding to the health sector.

According to Ambassador Robert Godec, Kenya and the US had enjoyed a cordial relationship for over five decades and this was not bound to change anytime soon.

"We are proud to be associated with Kenya. USA and Kenya have been friends for over 50 years, a relationship that has bound our people together through issues of socio-economic development," Godec stated.

Godec further pledged that the US government would support Kenya in any way it could despite the challenges faced.

"We will continue to stand with you hand in hand to work together for the betterment of Kenya," he emphasised.

He was speaking in Vihiga County when he officially launched water projects from the Ambassador's Special Help Fund.

On Monday, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) declared its intention to suspend funding for activities carried out by a number of Ministry of Health departments.

The US agency cited unspecified conditions that are yet to be met by some of the implementing partners.
