CJ Maraga Criticises Ahmednassir Abdullahi for Litigating Cases on Social Media

Chief Justice David Maraga on Friday blasted Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi at the Supreme Court over his conduct.

During the hearing of a court application, the CJ expressed anger over the lawyer's comments on social media regarding previous orders issued by the Supreme Court in a case.

The CJ went bare-knuckle at Ahmednassir and told him to choose whether to litigate his cases in court or on social media.

In response, Ahmednassir, who represented President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Presidential election petition, apologized to the Court.

These remarks arose during the hearing of an application to quash a Supreme Court decision to continue holding two Iranians who had been freed by the Court of Appeal.

The two, who were jailed over terror-related charges secured their freedom after the Court of Appeal ruled that there was no sufficient evidence to link them to the charges.

Nonetheless, contrary to the Court of Appeal's directive, they were still being held by the Immigration Department.

Previously, the CJ also intervened in a tug of war between the Senior counsel and his counterpart, James Orengo, over time allocation during court proceedings.

At some point, Ahmednassir got so mad that he stormed off to his seat before the CJ intervened and reminded him of the conduct expected in the court.

"No! No! No! Mr Ahmednasir. Don't sit down before I allow you to. They will need to respond to what you will have stated." the CJ remarked.
