UG President Yoweri Museveni Accuses Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong of Being Dishonest

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday accused Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong of dishonesty.

Speaking during the launch of the one-stop border in Busia together with Uhuru Kenyatta, Museveni stated that the Busia County boss is not being truthful concerning the Migingo fishermen conflict.

"These Samia People are eating the fingerlings and the Governor is keeping quiet about it," Mr Museveni mentioned.

The Ugandan President also alleged that the governor and Samia community are stealing his fish.

Museveni was responding to the Governor's plea to have an open border on the waters following the constant presence of Ugandan security forces who Ojamoong' claims mistreat Kenyan fishermen.

In his defense, Museveni stated that corruption in the police and fisheries department is majorly the reason why he was forced to send Special Force Command to the islands to protect the fish as their numbers were dwindling.

"The fish was getting finished. I had left the work of protecting the fish to the police and the Fisheries people but they failed. So I decided to use my bush tactics. Now I am told the fish numbers are growing again," he noted.

However, he affirmed that his earlier actions were no longer necessary and he would hold talks with Kenyatta and their Tanzanian Counterpart John Magufuli to agree on a better way of managing the lake's resources.

Museveni further suggested the use of boat monitoring systems.

"We need eyes to see what is happening on the lake all the time," Museveni commented.
