Voter Takes NASA Governor Sospeter Ojaamong to Court

A Kenyan voter has filed a petition with the Busia High Court seeking to have the election of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong overturned.

Mr Peter Odima, a voter in Nambale constituency, claims that the Governor violated election laws during his campaigns for the August 8 elections.

The Governor from the ODM party managed to win the seat with 135,153 votes where his main rival, former Funyula Member of Parliament Paul Otuoma, garnered 125,905 votes.

The campaigns for Busia county were filled with intrigues such as one incident where Dr Otuoma's rivals printed a fake front page headline on the eve of the ODM party primaries.

The fake news article declared that the former legislator had ditched the Orange party for Jubilee, therefore, he wouldn't contest for the nomination.

He, however, lost the nomination and vied as an independent candidate and still lost in the election.

Mr Odima was Dr Otuoma's chief campaigner and it would seem that the incident has motivated the suit.

Dr Otuoma is among the leaders from the Western region who have abandoned NASA leader Raila Odinga in the run up to the repeat presidential poll.

In his retreat message, the former legislator accused Mr Odinga of having sidelined his supporters from Busia.
