David Kangogo Bowen Loses Marakwet East Seat

The High Court on Tuesday nullified the election of Marakwet East MP David Kangogo Bowen.

Justice George Kimondo stated that there were massive irregularities in his election and the election was not transparent.

Bowen has been widely considered as one of the rebel MPs in Jubilee Party alongside Nandi legislator Alfred Keter.

Earlier in January, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered four House committees to remove their chairmen in favour of Jubilee Party preferences.

Keter, Bowen, Silas Tiren (Moiben) and James Gakuya (Embakasi North) were all ejected after Kenyatta made the order for their removal.

A few days later, three out of four of the rebel MPs were replaced in the committee leadership positions.

Keter, who was ousted from the chairmanship of the Labour and Social Welfare Committee, was replaced by Ali Wario while Joyce Korir took over as Vice Chairperson.

In the Environment Committee, Sophia Ali (Ijara) was declared winner to replace Mr Bowen.

This action was closely followed by the arrest of Keter by plainclothes police at the former Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) grounds.

The MP was arrested alongside two others and was accused of allegedly attempting to sell fake treasury bills.
