Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter Arrested

Nandi Hills Member of Parliament (MP) Alfred Keter was on Friday arrested by plainclothes police at the former Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) grounds.

The MP was arrested with two others and accused of allegedly attempting to sell fake treasury bills.

CBK Head of Communications Wallace Kantai spoke moments after the lawmaker was apprehended revealing that the bills were worth Sh633 Million.

"We are holding three individuals, Arthur Ingolo Sakwa, Madat Suburali Chatur and MP Alfred Keter.

"They presented a set of forged treasury bills which were purportedly issued by the CBK a number of years ago. This is obviously a crime and that has led to their arrest," Mr Kantai stated.

The Communications official told the press that the bills had been presented to the CBK over time adding that the individuals would be booked at police stations as investigations continued.

MP Keter, who was present during the presser by Mr Kantai, attempted to speak to journalists and was hindered by the officers holding him.

The three were whisked off in a van as their destination remain undisclosed to members of the public.

Treasury Bills are portions of the overall government debt that the government sells to investors at a discounted price where the investor can redeem the amount given to the government after three months, six months or a year.

The government provides investors with the opportunity to purchase these bills every three months, six months and annually.

MP Keter is among four Jubilee party MPs who went against the ruling party's agreed position during the appointment of committee leaders.

President Kenyatta summoned Keter along with Silas Tiren (Moiben), David Bowen (Marakwet) and Alex Kosgey (Emgwen) in connection to the rebellion and they later told the press that they had not been in their "right minds" when they opposed the party's position.
