Several police officers were reportedly killed in Mandera after suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked two police camps on Friday.
The incident took place at Fino Ward in Lafey and the area's Deputy County Commissioner Eric Oronyi revealed that the militants destroyed a mast prior to the attack.
It is alleged that they fired several shots at a Safaricom mast to hinder communication among officers before embarking on their mission.

"It happened around 1am but communication was cut off. I cannot tell more.
"We are yet to get clear information from the ground since those to give information took off," Mr Onyonyi was quoted by the Nation.
Fino MCA Saad Sheikh Ahmed stated that at least five people lost their lives and officers at the scene were still on the lookout for explosives that may have planted around the camp.
"Locals are reporting deaths of four APs and a reservist,” he remarked.
County AP Commander Suleiman Rashid could not divulge more information but revealed he would give a more comprehensive statement after getting a report from his officers.
This comes just a few days after Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) reportedly killed 23 members of Al-Shabaab in Fahfahdun town, Gedo Province of Somalia.
The militants withdrew from the positions they held in the area and there was a fierce exchange of fire that lasted four hours.
Three tactical vehicles with mounted machine guns were destroyed during the attack.
